EVACUATION ORDER

Martin Valley, British Columbia

Date: March 17, 2026

 

Whereas a state of local emergency was declared on March 17, 2026, by the Central Coast Regional District pursuant to Section 95 of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act due to landslide and flood hazard risk within the area of the hamlet of Martin Valley, British Columbia, in Electoral Area A.

And whereas Section 107 (1)(c) and (d) of the Emergency and Disaster Management Act authorizes requiring evacuations in relation to a declared state of local emergency, making arrangements for the adequate care and protection of evacuated persons and animals, and controlling travel to or from an area;

And whereas the landslide and flood hazard risk is a significant threat to the health, safety, and welfare of persons, such that an evacuation and controlling travel are necessary to minimize threats;

This Evacuation Order has been issued by the Central Coast Regional District and is effective as of March 17, 2026, for the area outlined in the map below.

YOU MUST LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY

 

Members of the RCMP and Westcoast Marine Services will be expediting this action.

The evacuation route is from Martin Valley to Ocean Falls, approximately 2.1 KMs to the East along Martin Valley Road (also known as Marine Drive).

A person must not enter any of the area(s) identified above and in the attached map for purposes of residing, occupying, or visiting the area(s).

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • Follow the evacuation route provided.
  • If you need transportation assistance from the area, advise the person providing this notice or call 250-982-0062.
  • If you have homeowners’ or tenants’ insurance, contact your insurance provider to arrange for living expenses such as accommodation and food.
  • Close all windows and
  • Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing
  • Take critical items (e.g., medicine, wallet, insurance policy number/contact) only if they are immediately Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.

 

EMERGENCY SUPPORT SERVICES:

  • Residents who require assistance from government to meet their basic needs during the evacuation are asked to register for Emergency Support Services (ESS).
  • Evacuees may request and register for support at:

  • Upon request and based on assessed need, temporary accommodation and meals may be provided through the Emergency Support Services program.
