What is Grant in Aid?

The Grant in Aid program provides support to local community groups.

Applications for funding are governed by Policy F-17, Application for Grant-in-Aid, The Board of Directors last updated and amended the policy on March 23, 2023.  For more detailed information about the program, please see Policy F-17, Application for Grant-in-aid here.

In general, the Board supports non-profit, non-partisan and non-denominational applicants.  The amount available as through the Grant in Aid program varies from year to year.  Each year the amount is set by during the annual budget and is limited by legislation and policy to an annual amount requisitioned by the Regional District that may not exceed a maximum of $0.10 per thousand dollars of assessed property values or a lesser amount as determined by the Board in setting the annual budget.

Funding Framework:

  • No single Electoral Area may receive more than 60% of the eligible funding for a single intake.
  • An organization may apply for more than one project but cannot receive more than $2,500 in a single year.  Sports Teams and Parent Advisory Councils will be limited to a maximum of $250 annually per organization.
  • A sum of $1,000 will be made available on an annual basis to the Heiltsuk Nation, Nuxalk Nation and Wuikinuxv Nation to support community initiatives, youth activities, scholarships, or other events or projects that would qualify under the grant in aid program. The Nations will be asked to identify a cause that would benefit most from the funding.
  • Once the final decision is made by the Board of Directors, the CAO or designate will administer disbursements.
  • Scope changes require approval from the Board.

Application Process and Timeline:

May: Call for applications.

June 1 or  first business day in June: Applications due.

July: Eligible and complete applications will be presented to CCRD Board at the July Regular Meeting for consideration and final decision. Applicants will be advised of the decisions of the Board.

August: Funds disbursed to successful applicants. All successful applicants are required to submit a Funding Report within 18 months of disbursement of funds. Failure to submit a funding report will make the organization ineligible for future grant in aid applications. Late reports will be accepted.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Grant in Aid recipients are required to complete Appendix “C” Report on Grant In Aid Funding prior to December 30th of the year in which the grant was received.

Grant Writing Support

The CCRD values the hard-working community groups and volunteers who undertake projects, programs, and services that benefit communities in our Region.

Funded in part by Northern Development Initiative Trust, the Community Grant Writer assists the Regional District with grant applications, identifying funding sources, and submissions in support of qualifying community organizations.

The CCRD Grant Writer Support Program is intended:

  • to secure more funding dollars to support community economic development projects and initiatives within the CCRD; and
  • to build grant writing capacity and expertise within local organizations.

Community organizations operating in the Central Coast region who are seeking funding for a community economic development initiative have an opportunity to access the Community Grant Writer.

If your organization is applying to a specific grant, please contact the Grant Writer Support Program a minimum of two weeks prior to the grant application deadline, in order to provide enough time for the Community Grant Writer to assist you with your project.
