2026 GENERAL LOCAL ELECTIONS
Notice is hereby given that elections by voting are to be held to elect Electoral Area Directors for the Central Coast Regional District and Trustees for School District No. 49, and that the following persons are candidates for each office:

ASSENT VOTING
Notice is also given that Assent Voting (a referendum) will be held on the following question and available on the same days and at the same times and locations as for the 2026 General Local Elections:

“Are you in favour of the Central Coast Regional District adopting “Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Call Service Establishment Bylaw No. 566, 2026”, that would establish a Regional 9-1-1 Emergency Call Service for Electoral Areas A, B, C, D and E?”
INSPECTION OF BYLAW NO. 566, 2026
A full copy of Bylaw No. 566, 2026 and related background information is available for viewing at Proposed Regional 9-1-1 Service – CCRD. It may also be inspected at the CCRD Office, 626 Cliff Street, Bella Coola, BC, during regular office hours (Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding statutory holidays), from the date of this notice until Saturday, October 17, 2026, and at each voting place while voting is taking place.
VOTING OPPORTUNITIES AND LOCATIONS
ADVANCE VOTING OPPORTUNITY
One Advance Voting Opportunity will be held on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Central Coast Regional District Main Office, 626 Cliff Street, Bella Coola.
SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITY
Two Special Voting Opportunities will be held on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2026 at the following locations and timeframes:

*Exact voting times cannot be confirmed in advance. Wuikinuxv and Ocean Falls are accessible only by air or water, and election officials’ travel depends on the weather and flight conditions from Bella Bella and between communities on the day of travel. Voting will take place as close as possible to the timeframe shown. If weather or transportation conditions prevent election officials from reaching a community on the scheduled day, the election official(s) will plan to hold the special voting opportunity on the next available day (up to and including October 16). Any updates related to Special Voting Opportunities, including confirmed times, will be posted at www.ccrd.ca/elections.

General Voting Day is set for SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the following voting place(s):

MAIL BALLOT VOTING
Mail ballot voting is available to all eligible electors of the Central Coast Regional District under the CCRD Mail Ballot Authorization and Procedure Bylaw No. 516, 2022.
Requesting a Mail Ballot Package
Mail ballot applications are being accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026*. To request a mail ballot package, submit the following information to the Chief Election Officer by mail, telephone, fax, or email:
- Full name;
- Residential address;
- Address of the property in relation to which you are voting (for non-resident property electors);
- Method of delivery of your mail ballot package – pick-up at the CCRD office (including the name of any person you authorize to pick up the package on your behalf), regular mail through Canada Post to your residential address, or regular mail through Canada Post to an alternate address you provide; and
- Whether you will be registering as a resident elector or a non-resident property elector, so that you are sent the correct registration form.

Returning a Mail Ballot
To be counted, your completed mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8:00 p.m. on General Voting Day – Saturday, October 17, 2026. Mail ballots received after the close of voting cannot be counted.
Completed mail ballots may be dropped off by the elector or by someone on their behalf at one of the above voting opportunities (Advance, Special and General) or delivered to the CCRD Main Office in Bella Coola, 626 Cliff Street, Bella Coola. *Electors are encouraged to contact the Chief or Deputy Chief Election Officer if they intend to vote by mail ballot (contact information above) to discuss their options for receiving and returning a mail ballot.
*PLEASE NOTE: Due to the remote location of many communities in the Central Coast Regional District, mail delivery can be slow and unpredictable, and is often affected by weather and limited transportation. The CCRD cannot guarantee that a mail ballot package will reach an elector, or that a completed ballot will be returned, before 8:00 p.m. on General Voting Day, Saturday, October 17, 2026. Electors are encouraged to contact the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer before requesting a mail ballot package to discuss the best voting option for their situation. Electors may find it easier to vote in person at an advance voting opportunity or a Special Voting Opportunity in their community.
ELECTOR REGISTRATION
The Central Coast Regional District uses same-day voter registration – there is no need to pre-register. Electors will be registered at the time of voting by completing the poll book and making a declaration that they meet the requirements set out below.
Resident Electors
To register as a resident elector, you must:
- be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day (October 17, 2026);
- be a Canadian citizen;
- be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at the time of voting);
- be a resident of the electoral area on the day of registration (at the time of voting); and
- not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting, and not otherwise disqualified by law.
Non-Resident Property Electors
To register as a non-resident property elector, you must:
• be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day (October 17, 2026);
• be a Canadian citizen;
• be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at the time of voting);
• be a registered owner of real property in the electoral area for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration (at the time of voting);
• not be entitled to register as a resident elector; and
• not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting, and not otherwise disqualified by law.
In addition, for non-resident property electors:
- only individuals who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, and who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust, may register; and
- if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may register as a non-resident property elector, and only with the written consent of the majority of the owners.
There is no corporate or business vote in British Columbia local elections, and a person may not vote on behalf of a corporation.
Identification Required to Register
Resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one bearing a signature). Picture identification is not required, but the identification must prove both residency and identity.
Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one bearing a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.
ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION
Acceptable identification includes any of the following:
- a British Columbia Driver’s Licence;
- a BC Identification Card (Identification Card Regulation);
- a photo BC Services Card (Identification Card Regulation);
- a non-photo BC Services Card (Identification Card Regulation);
- a document issued by the Government of Canada certifying registration as an Indian under the Indian Act (Canada);
- a citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation;
- a citizenship card issued by Métis Nation British Columbia;
- an Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia;
- a British Columbia CareCard or British Columbia Gold CareCard;
- a Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security Request for Continued Assistance Form (SDES8);
- a Social Insurance Number card or Social Insurance Number confirmation letter issued by the Government of Canada;
- a Citizenship Card issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada;
- a real property tax notice issued under section 237 of the Community Charter or section 21 of the Taxation (Rural Area) Act;
- a credit card or debit card issued by a savings institution as defined in section 29 of the Interpretation Act; or
- a utility bill for electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or coaxial cable services issued by a public utility, gas utility, water utility, BC Hydro, or a corporation licensed by the CRTC.
HOW TO VOTE
- Attend the advance voting opportunity, a special voting opportunity, or the identified voting place in your electoral area on General Voting Day, during the hours listed above; or apply for and return a mail ballot as described above.
- Bring the identification described above to register at the time of voting.
- Election officials will provide you with a ballot for the office(s) you are eligible to vote for based on your electoral area and, if applicable, school trustee area. All eligible electors will also be offered a ballot for Assent Voting.
- Mark your ballot for no more than the number of candidates to be elected for each office, place it in the correct ballot box (or return your mail ballot as instructed), and it will be counted after the close of voting on General Voting Day.
