Central Coast Regional District Extends Condolences Following Tragic Loss of Mother and Daughter

Central Coast, BC — The Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) is heartbroken by the confirmation that both individuals reported missing near Snooka West Trail have been found deceased.

The tragic loss of a mother and daughter is devastating for their loved ones and has deeply affected our community.

“Words cannot adequately express the sorrow we feel for the family and loved ones of these two individuals,” said Jayme Kennedy, Chair of the Central Coast Regional District Board. “This is a heartbreaking loss for our entire community. In a place as close-knit as the Bella Coola Valley, tragedies like this touch so many lives. Our hearts are with everyone grieving, particularly the family, friends, and members of our school community whose lives they touched.”

The CCRD wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Bella Coola RCMP, Bella Coola Valley Search and Rescue, BC Conservation Officer Service, Nuxalk Nation representatives, and all those who assisted in the search and recovery efforts under exceptionally difficult circumstances.

The BC Conservation Officer Service continues to investigate the incident as a suspected grizzly bear attack. While search efforts have concluded, public-safety concerns remain. The CCRD urges residents and visitors to continue avoiding the Snooka West Trail area and to follow all directions issued by the appropriate authorities.

As our community mourns, we encourage everyone to extend compassion and support to those affected and to respect the privacy of the families during this incredibly difficult time.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Central Coast Regional District, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those lost.
