Central Coast Regional District Statement on Tragic Incident in Bella Coola Valley

Central Coast, BC — The Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in our community. One individual has been found deceased in the Snooka West Trail area, and search efforts continue for a second missing person.

The BC Conservation Officer Service has confirmed that an individual was located deceased in the Snooka West Trail area on November 2, 2026. Authorities are investigating the circumstances, including the possible involvement of wildlife.

“This is heartbreaking news for our community,” said Jayme Kennedy, Chair of the Central Coast Regional District Board. “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy. As the search continues, we are holding onto hope for the missing individual and keeping everyone involved in our thoughts. In a close-knit community like ours, events like this are felt deeply by all.”

The CCRD wishes to acknowledge the dedication of the RCMP, Bella Coola Valley Search and Rescue, BC Conservation Officer Service, Nuxalk Nation representatives, and all those assisting in the ongoing search and investigation.

The CCRD urges residents and visitors to respect the direction of the BC Conservation Officer Service and avoid the Snooka West Trail area due to ongoing public-safety concerns and investigative activities.

During this difficult time, we encourage everyone to support one another, respect the privacy of those affected, and rely on official sources for further information.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Central Coast Regional District, we extend our deepest condolences to those grieving this loss and our continued thoughts to the family awaiting news of their missing loved one.
