Highway 20 Closure update for July 15, 2021

Notice Date

Please be advised that CCRD's best understanding of the current situation on Highway 20 is that the Ministry of Transportation and BC Wildfire are working hard to have a limited opening from approximately 4 am - 10 am (possibly 3 am - 11 am) on Friday, June 16th through the Hotnarko Fire evacuation alert area along the Highway 20 corridor. A pilot car will be used to escort vehicles so please plan for delays. We understand the Ministry of Transportation and BC Wildfire service are also hopeful that Highway 20 will continue to be open to the public through the support of a piloted vehicle at the Big Stick fire evacuation area through the remainder of today, with the possibility of a free-flow opening beginning later this evening (Thursday July 15) and continuing through tomorrow. Please note however plans could change at a moment's notice according to fire behaviour and public safety. Please also be mindful that there is no cell service through most of the Highway 20 corridor if you plan to attempt travel through the fire evacuation and alert areas. Please continue to check WildfireBC (https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/wildfire-status/wildfire-situation) and DriveBC (https://www.drivebc.ca/) for the latest information on wildfire, road conditions and highway closures.
