For Immediate Release: 2018 Election Information

Are you interested in running for Electoral Area Director or School Trustee in October 2018?

This year´s Local Government Election will be on Saturday, October 20th where the following will be elected for a four year term:

Five (5) Electoral Area Directors for the Central Coast Regional District, one each representing:

Area A - Ocean Falls, Denny Island, Wuikinuxv
Area B - Bella Bella
Area C - Tweedsmuir west to Augsburg Church
Area D - Augsburg Church west to Tatsquan and including Townsite reserve
Area E - Bella Coola Townsite excluding reserve

Five (5) School District Trustees representing:
Two Trustees (2) representing the West Zone including Electoral Areas A and B (Ocean Falls, Denny Island, Wuikinuxv and Bella Bella)
Three Trustees (3) representing the East Zone including Electoral Areas C, D and E (Bella Coola Valley).

Nomination packages for all candidates may be found online at http://www.ccrd-bc.ca and are available for pick up during regular office hours (8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays) until 4:00 pm Friday, September 14, 2018 at the following location:

Bella Coola BC

The nomination packages provide the necessary documents to nominate a candidate as well as general information about the election process and the Central Coast Regional District.

Nominations for Electoral Area Directors and School Trustees require at least two (2) qualified nominators.

The nomination period commences at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 4th and closes at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14th.

To qualify to run for local government office or office of School Trustee, a person at the time of nomination must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Have been a resident of BC for at least six months prior to the date of nomination;
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, School Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, elected to or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Making a Nomination

Nominators must be qualified electors of the municipality, electoral area or trustee electoral area for which the person is nominated, in other words nominators must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
  • Be a Canadian Citizen;
  • Have been a resident of BC for at least six months;
  • Have been a resident of the municipality, electoral area, or trustee electoral area for at least 30 days;
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, School Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, elected to or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.
