Heritage Protection

Residents of and visitors to the Central Coast region should be aware of the laws enshrined in the BC Heritage Protection Act, particularly Section 12.1.  The purpose of the Act is to protect and conserve heritage property in British Columbia, including but not limited to sites, objects, and personal property which have value to Indigenous people.

CCRD staff are currently developing a Heritage Protection bylaw for review and approval by the CCRD Board.  It will be developed to best fit the Central Coast region, and will be based in part on the BC Heritage Protection Act and the BC Local Government Act Part 15-Heritage Protection.  It will be developed in partnership with local First Nations.
