HWY 20 Traveler Information - Sept 5, 2025

Notice Date

Traveler Information

The wildfire situation in the region continues to evolve, and conditions may change with little notice. Bella Coola is a remote area with limited resources; while Highway 20 is open at this time, all travellers are urged to carefully assess the necessity of their journey. Non-essential travel may add pressure to local services, which are currently focused on wildfire response and community safety.

Highway 20 is currently operating with single-lane alternating traffic and may experience closures to support firefighting efforts and address visibility concerns caused by smoke. Those who proceed should be prepared for delays and plan accordingly.

At present, Bella Coola remains accessible; caution should be exercised by all travelers.

Central Coast residents affected by Highway 20 closures can access limited Emergency Support Services (ESS) if necessary.

ESS is being provided at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex, at 525 Proctor Street, Williams Lake or by phone at 250-267-4861.
